Zürich, May 2023 – The Akris. Fashion. Selbstverständlich exhibition runs at the Museum für Gestaltung from 12 May to 24 September, as a tribute to the meticulous craftsmanship of the Swiss fashion house, and to the creativity of the collections created by its designer and creative director Albert Kriemler.

Founded in 1922 in the Swiss textile capital of St Gallen, the maison creates elegant, refined and versatile garments, designed with clear architectural lines, high-quality fabrics, body-conscious tailoring and sophisticated colours, all produced by Albert Kriemler. The only Swiss brand taking part in Paris Fashion Week, Akris walks the fine line between the Zeitgeist – the sign of the times, tradition and experimentation.

The major exhibition therefore focuses on the artistic worlds that have inspired the collections over the last decade. The relentless exploration of the universe of art, architecture, design and photography have become part of Kriemler’s signature and a trademark of Akris.

“Akris. Fashion. Selbstverständlich.” presents over 100 looks, divided into twelve themes from 2009 to 2022, where the garments are juxtaposed with the artistic, photographic or cinematographic images that inspired their creation. Visitors enter the exhibition through a trapezium, which represents a visual metaphor for the “A” in Akris, for Alice (the founder of the house) and for Albert. The trapezium is one of the brand’s hallmarks, and recurs across all its collections. The visit ends with videos and projections that tell the story of the collaboration between designers, artisans and creative partners.

The exhibition offers an overview of the unique savoir-faire of the fashion house, the workmanship and the precision of the production characteristic of the collections, where the focus is on how inspiration and mastery can reinvent the image of fashion.

With their elegant and delicate poses, Bonaveri’s Schläppi 2200 mannequins, which stand out for their timelessness and flexibility, accompany and enhance the Akris garments on display. This collection of female mannequins is one of the most iconic and loved; it forms part of the historic Schläppi line and its silhouettes with distinctive and specifically stylised features. These true icons allude to human figures, guaranteeing great versatility and harmony by interpreting the clothes and guiding visitors throughout the exhibition. With this new exhibition alongside a prestigious fashion brand, the Italian company confirms itself as an example of Made in Italy excellence, characterised by Italian passion and art, craftsmanship and originality.
