Members of the fashion industry, teaching profession, students and graduates gathered last night to honour Professor Louise Wilson and the contribution she made to British Fashion.

The event also highlighted the efforts of the Lousie Wilson MA Fashion Fund – a scholarship scheme to ensure that talented students from all backgrounds are given the chance to complete the MA Fashion course.

Louise Wilson OBE sadly passed away on May 17 2014 and left behind a legacy of achievements that will shape both education and the British fashion industry for years to come.

Her term at Central Saint Martins saw graduates like Alexander McQueen, Louise Goldin, Peter Jensen, Christopher Kane, Mary Katrantzou and Marios Schwab deliver significant contributions in themselves to British Fashion. A former designer, she was considered one of the most influential people in British fashion and was awarded an OBE in October 2008. A graduate of the school, Louise Wilson went on to teach at Central Saint Martins before venturing to New York where she worked for Donna Karan. She returned to CSM in 1999 to take over the directorship of the school where her wit, fierce passion and brutal honesty characterised her style of teaching and leadership.

Speaking at the event, Fabio Piras, Central Saint Martins course director and Prof Jeremy Till, head of the college outlined the importance of the work she accomplished as well as reminding those present of the importance of ensuring a level playing field for all students. The college has reached international acclaim for it’s course and by launching this fund, the aim is to ensure that future talent continues to reap benefit for the entire British fashion industry.

Bonaveri is participating in the program, supporting students of the school by providing mannequins for shows and graduate exhibitions. Our involvement with fashion Schools internationally is part of our initiative of supporting young talents.
