Olivier Theyskens’ Spring Summer 2022 Couture Collection at Paris Fashion Week is a masterclass in composition and colour. Set on the sweeping stage of the Palais Galliera, each garment is individually presented on Aloof mannequins, set against the stone facade of the colonnade.
Theyskens has chosen to use Bonaveri’s Schläppi 6000 Aloof mannequins for the installation and has kept it simple by utilising one pose from the collection. The effect is minimal and yet, highly impactful as the eye is drawn across the collection. Each piece is a composition of single colour, layered through the use of bias-cut strips of lace, silk and satin fabrics; archival cuttings echoing the history of garments made over time in Theyskens’ atelier. Each piece is a dreamlike assemblage of lightly levitating fabrics that embrace the body and envelop the whole in an unexpected layer of transparency and colour.
Aloof was chosen by Theyskens to add to the ethereal mood of the presentation. The soft vertical flow of Aloof’s pose allow the fabrics to gently climb and fall across the body. Aloof echoes the formidable strength of presence of the space, set in a rhythm that mirrors the architectural features of the Palais Galliera. The whole effect is enduring and yet at the same time ephemeral, relying on the light and breeze to offer intimate and personal interaction with the collection.
